Gerwyn Price set to compete at UK Open Pool Championship from May 26-31 - clashing with Premier League Darts Play-Offs

Gerwyn Price says he intends to take up an offer to compete at the UK Open Pool Championship in May regardless of whether it clashes with the Premier League Darts Play-Offs.

The 2023 Premier League runner-up has been handed a wild card to compete at the event held at the Brentwood Centre from May 26-31, including 256 competitors from more than 50 countries, and with a bumper £167,500 prize fund.

Price is also trying to qualify for the Premier League Darts Play-Offs, which takes place at The O2 in London on the evening of May 28.

'The Iceman' Price has experience of playing pool, having previously played at last year's Mosconi Cup, competing in an exhibition Pro-Am event at Alexandra Palace. In a game with team-mate Milan Patel, Price hit the winning shot against Ade Oladipo and Hugo Boyle before letting out his trademark scream.

Speaking before play began at Thursday's Premier League Darts in Aberdeen, Price told Your Site: "I went and watched the Mosconi Cup and have taken some interest in nine-ball pool, and got an invite to the UK Open. So, I'll take it with both hands and give it a crack.

"Hopefully I make the Premier League Darts Play-Offs, first of all. If I do, with the pool, I think I could possibly play on the Tuesday. It's double-elimination, so I'll still be in for a couple days after that. Then maybe break up a bit on Thursday [for the darts], and Friday-Saturday I should be playing [pool] again hopefully."

Price has been dragged into the Premier League Darts Play-Off race after a sluggish few weeks, with the Markham ace failing to win three consecutive quarter-final matches and .

Questioned over the possibility of a clash if he advanced in the pool tournament, Price said: "I'm in it to win it. I wouldn't turn up if I didn't think I could win. I'm half decent! They're good players but I'm there to win.

On whether he would be able to retain full focus on the darts, Price added: "100 per cent. That's my bread and butter. I'm there to win the Premier League, hopefully if I get there, but I'll be one eye on the pool as well."

The PDC was asked by Your Site to clarify Price's position if he went on to make the Play-Offs.

A statement read: "Gerwyn does not require any special dispensation to participate. PDC players are free to take part in non-darts events outside of their playing commitments.

"We are not sure if Gerwyn would play if he were to qualify for Premier League Play-Offs night, but we believe he would choose the darts in the event of a clash!"

The darts star has previously played in the Welsh Premiership and briefly for United Rugby Championship side Glasgow Warriors.

Last year's UK Open Pool Championship was won by Singapore's Aloysius Yapp who defeated Jonas Souto 13-1 in the final in Telford.

The 2026 BetMGM Premier League season will continue at the P&J Live in Aberdeen.

Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen go head-to-head in a potentially pivotal clash in the race for a top four finish, while league leader Jonny Clayton renews his rivalry with Gian van Veen.

Josh Rock and Luke Littler lock horns in the evening's opener, as Stephen Bunting and Price collide for a place in the semi-finals.

Ranking points are awarded per night - with five to the winner, three to the runner-up and two to the semi-finalists - to form the league table from which the top four players will progress to Finals Night at The O2 in London on Thursday May 28.
